Johnnie Mae Griffith Honored as a VIP Member by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Education
Johnnie Mae Griffith has devoted her career to the education field

OGDEN, UT, April 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Johnnie Mae Griffith, M.Sp.Ed., Resource Teacher at Ben Lomond High School, has been recognized as a VIP Member by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of education.

Johnnie Mae Griffith, a native of Georgia, has been featured in local education newsletters and magazines. She has worked with various community organizations for race equity in schools. In 2005, a statewide Sterling Scholars Program winner in the category of English and overall Utah category hailed from Ben Lomond High School where she teaches English to students diagnosed with learning disabilities and behavior and reading disorders. During her time as the coordinator of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest at the school, many Ben Lomond students were broadcast over Radio Disney and received monetary awards. The civil rights movement and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in particular hold a special place in Ms. Griffith's heart. She heard him speak and attended his funeral in 1968 and now shares those experiences with students of all ages through her words and essay writings.

Ms. Griffith is pursuing a Doctorate Degree and earned a Master of Special Education with a concentration in Behavioral Disorders from the University of Michigan in 1972. She is certified in elementary education and special education. Ms. Griffith graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education and attended Henry McNeal Turner High School in Atlanta. The Ogden Standard Examiner honored her with the Apple for the Teacher Award and she received the Spirit of the American Woman Award in 1998. She enjoys acting as a presenter at community college preparation seminars for parents and students.
