Social Skills Program Offered This Summer in Akron: For Children with Autism, Asperger's, Emotional Disorder and Behavioral Concerns
Children with autism, Aspergers, emotional disorder and behavioral concerns often have difficulty with social interaction. Social skills programs help them learn how to behave, what to do and what to say at school, with peers and in social settings.
FAIRLAWN, OH, May 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Total Education Solutions (TES) is offering social skills developmental classes this summer for children of all ages, from preschool through high school. The program is for anyone having difficulty with social interaction, and is ideal for children with autism, Asperger's Syndrome, emotional disorder, behavioral issues or struggling in school.
Children will be placed with peers of similar age and ability in order to promote successful learning of social interaction and understanding. A wide range of teaching strategies will be used to foster social communication and skill development, including role playing, video modeling and interactive games.
Each two-hour session focuses on nonverbal and verbal communication, problem solving, discriminating and labeling emotions, perspective taking, conflict/anger behavioral management, establishing and maintaining appropriate boundaries with peers and staff, reciprocal social interactions, and developing/maintaining friendships.
"This social skills program helps children learn how to behave, what to do and what to say at school, with peers and in social situations," said Tawnia Novak, Regional Manager at TES Ohio. "Each class is led by a qualified behaviorist educator. The small, structured, skill-based instruction follows detailed lesson plans while collecting data to ensure progress."
Novak has more than 20 years experience in special education. She started the Ohio region TES in November 2007, and has provided services to hundreds of children in the region and over 50 schools.
TES provides innovative, quality educational services to individuals with special needs. In addition to social skills classes, TES offers speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, intensive academic instruction, behavioral support, tutoring, physical therapy, psychological assessments, adaptive physical education and more.
Two social skills programs are being offered this summer. Program One runs from June 21 to July 9. Program Two takes place from July 12 to August 9. A summary of the curriculum is available upon request. Discounts are offered for early enrollment and families with multiple children in the classes.
