Martha A. Cavalieri, RN, brings 51 years of experience to the Orangeburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board

ORANGEBURG, SC, October 06, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Martha A. Cavalieri, a Registered Nurse Consultant and Director of Nursing for the Orangeburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in nursing.

With 51 years of experience in nursing and 16 years of experience as a director of nursing, Martha A. Cavalieri has shown a definite trajectory of growth in her field. Her areas of expertise include nursing in a health care and home care setting, whilst also preparing her patients to blend into society with the least amount of friction or adversity. The Orangeburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board serves the intentions of the intermediate care facility, community training home, and supervised training homes that provide health care for people with disabilities who require individualized attention.

Mrs. Cavalieri has come a long way since her childhood experiences in a one-room schoolhouse with a pot-bellied stove, in an era when Christmas was celebrated with homemade popcorn balls and hard candy. Her grandmother taught her how to sew, crochet, garden, and love nature, while her grandfather showed her that honest work is not only expected but valued — a strong sentiment she brings to her profession every day. She became involved in nursing because she developed an interest in the field as a child, having visited lonely shut-ins with her grandparents and seeing first-hand that the disabled needed to feel safe and cared for.

Prior to joining the Orangeburg County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, Mrs. Cavalieri worked for Lockport Memorial Hospital. She received her diploma in nursing in 1958 from E. J. Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. In five years, she plans to continue working as a registered nurse consultant and director of nursing.
