Kassandra Myers Honored by Cambridge Who's Who
Kassandra Myers is honored for her invaluable contributions to the field of special education

LANCASTER, CA, March 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kassandra Myers, Special Education Teacher within the Antelope Valley Union High School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in special education.

For Kassandra Myers, the path to a career in special education seemed like an inevitable one; her knack for dealing with children with behavioral problems emerged early in her life and naturally progressed into an unwavering dedication to the students she molds and develops. As a special education teacher with 34 years of experience in and outside of the classroom, Ms. Myers uses her time-honed skills and natural instincts to shape her students holistically. She addresses behavioral and psychological issues while providing a basic curriculum comparable to that which is taught in general education.

While Ms. Myers advocates the pursuit of higher education for many students due to their natural talents and abilities, she recognizes that the disparities between general and special education may cause some to feel wary or discouraged: "Even though some of our higher-functioning students try to take the CAHSEE (California High School Exit Examination), they know they won't make it into college and instead just want to get jobs and careers." The Antelope Valley Union High School District's special education program offers career training and preparation for moderately to severely handicapped students - an incentive Ms. Myers believes will help more students achieve their goals. In addition to developing reading, mathematics and practical skills, she believes in nurturing the students' spirits and emotions as well, by fostering an open atmosphere where she and her kids share, learn and grow together.

Ms. Meyers received a bachelor of arts in elementary education with a concentration in psychology from Dakota Wesleyan University in 1975 and a master's degree in special education plus 90 credits from Western Kentucky University. She is a mentor for the Council for Exceptional Children and has been an active participant in the Special Olympics for more than 30 years.
