Veteran educator Douglas Lia, Ed.D. celebrates third year with Dominican University

RIVER FOREST, IL, June 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Douglas Lia, Ed.D., Assistant Professor of Education at Dominican University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in higher education.

With 37 years of practiced expertise in education, Dr. Douglas Lia has achieved professional success through his specialty in early childhood literacy and special education. Now celebrating his third year with Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois, Dr. Lia teaches literacy courses for student teachers and serves as an advisor for 84 students. He also provides literacy coaching for reading, content reading and coaching practicum. Aside from his classroom responsibilities, he coordinates with the student affairs committee, performs data analysis and addresses issues regarding discipline and academics.

Dr. Lia is an active public speaker on issues pertaining to education and literacy. He attends many conferences on behalf of Dominican University and acts as a consultant for both private and public schools. Dr. Lia, who taught in the public school system for over three decades, attributes his success to his vocational background as well as hard work and a passion to teach. The support of his family, he states, also serves as a motivating force in both his personal and professional lives.

A graduate of Northern Illinois University, Dr. Lia earned his Ed.D. in reading in 1988. His professional affiliations include membership with the West Suburban Reading Council, the Illinois Reading Council, the College Reading Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the International Reading Association. Looking to the future, Dr. Lia intends to complete his studies in curriculum design and write a book on strategies for early childhood reading and elementary education for students in pre-kindergarten through third grade.
