Karen B. Russell Named Elementary Education Professional of the Year
PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 17, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen B. Russell, M.Ed., Learning Support Teacher for The School District of Philadelphia, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Elementary Education. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities
Twenty six years ago, Karen B. Russell began to notice the detrimental effect reading disabilities had on students' progress. Inspired to help students reach their highest potentials, she decided to enter the field of education. Attending the West Chester University of Pennsylvania, she earned a master of education in higher education counseling and went on to join the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers. She worked with autistic children for five years before taking her current position with The School District of Philadelphia. Today, she works as a Learning Support Teacher, responsible for teaching inclusion students, modifying requirements and attending individualized education program meetings.
She thrives in her 21st year as Learning Support Teacher and credits her success to the support she has received from mentors.
